Children’s Fantasy Writing November 5, 2006Posted by sharynheili in Uncategorized.
I am not a Children’s Libarian, but I love fiction that jump starts my imagination. Today on To the Best of Our Knowledge on National Public Radio, I heard an excellent broadcast on children’s fantasy writing titled “Lions, Witches and Wizards”. It was such a fascinating broadcast that I want to share it with others who may have missed it. I know that I am not too old to enjoy reading these books.
Geraldine McCaughrean, who wrote a sequel to Peter Pan titled “Peter Pan in Scarlet”, was interviewed and read a segment from her book. A wonderful BBC Radio dramatization of her book is an exciting part of this segment. Other authors interviewed were Matthew Skelton, author of a new novel titled “Endymion Spring,” which was described as a “Da Vinci Code” novel for kids. This sounds like my kind of book, with old manuscripts, libraries, and magic.
Irish author Eoin Colfer, author of the Artemis Fowl books and Tamora Pierce were also interviewed. Pierce’s newest “Beka Cooper” book is titled “Terrier”. Pierce discusses why she enjoys creating strong female heroines in her stories.
